Negotiations with US and Iran ongoing and bombings suspended: Shelly Kittleson released

US airstrikes on Iranian power plants have been suspended as President Donald Trump and the Islamic regime of Iran are negotiating a ceasefire. US B-52 bombers had previously taken off from a British airbase heading to Iran but bombing operations have been suspended as a ceasefire agreement is close to being reached.

President Trump is demanding the opening of the Strait of Hormnuz in exchange for a two-weeks ceasefire. He had previously stated that the re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz was not a priority. A statement published by Pakistan’s Premier earlier during the day urged for a two-week ceasefire. Pakistan, which is a US ally, is mediating between Iran and the US. The Israeli government said that it will also be abiding with the ceasefire agreement.

President Trump had previously said that if Iran doesn’t come to an agreement, its civilisation will die.

Meanwhile, Shelly Kittleson, the US journalist in Iraq who was kidnapped by the Iran-backed militia, Kataib Hezbollah, has been released. Her captors forced her to appear in a video delivering a statement before her release. She was abducted in Baghdad on March 31 and held for around a week before being freed as part of a prisoner exchange with detained members of the militia. The Iran-aligned group stated that she would be released on the condition that she leave Iraq immediately.
