Malta’s Foreign Minister meets German counterpart to discuss international events

Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul earlier this Monday and discussed ongoing international events.

The German foreign Minister said that the they discussed Russia’s war on Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and also the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is currently being re-opened by the US Navy and yesterday, a Maltese-flagged oil-tanker passed through the Strait for the first time since the blockade began.

The government’s press release also announced that the pair discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine and the war in Iran. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg stated that “Europe is facing a defining moment. Russia’s war in Ukraine continues to have far-reaching implications for Europe, while instability in the Middle East is placing additional strain on energy security and economic stability. Against this backdrop, it is essential that we reinforce the European project, strengthen unity among Member States, and ensure that our Union continues to deliver for its citizens.”
