According to the latest Eurostat statistics, Euro-area inflation went up to 2.6% in March from 1.9% in February and 2.8% in the EU from 2.1%. Malta’s inflation rate has remained flat at 2.3% mainly owing to electricity and fuel subsidies.
The lowest inflation rates were registered in Denmark at 1.%, and Czechia, Cyprus and Sweden all at 1.5%. The highest rates were recorded in Romania (9.0%), Croatia (4.6%) and Lithuania (4.4%).
Inflation in Europe regained an upward trend due to the war in Iran after declining substantially in the previous year.
The figures confirm flash estimates issued earlier this month.
