Damning planning applications approved during an election campaign at the expense of national heritage

Two highly damaging planning applications were approved yesterday by the Planning Authority, namely an application to build a block of apartments in the exclusion zone of the prehistoric Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra, Gozo, and another application to demolish the Chambray Barracks in Fort Chambray.

Both applications were strongly contested by environmental and heritage NGOs.

The Labour government has consistently favoured construction developments at the expense of the preservation of historical sites and archaeology. Meanwhile, reports have also emerged that the padel courts on Manoel Island were built on Roman archaeological remains.

Voting Labour will give the green light for the further destruction of Maltese heritage. This constant destruction and total disregard to archeology and national heritage has been normalised under the Labour government.
