Yesterday, the US Navy with its 5th Fleet, has begun successfully unblocking the Strait of Hormuz from the Iranian blockade, allowing several ships to pass through. Some ships including the US commercial vessel the Alliance Fairfax confirmed that they exited the Strait but many vessels are switching off their transponders before passing through.
Effectively, marine traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has spiked after multiple attempts by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to assert control over the strait. The Iranian regime is now rapidly losing control over the strait.
Yesterday, the IRGC fired ballistic missiles and drones at the United Arab Emirates in response to the measures by the US navy but most of the projectiles were shot down. The IRGC also fired at a commercial vessel, but the US forces are also conducting routine checks across the strait targeting and destroying any IRGC boats which attempt to interfere with any crossings.
Oil jumped beyond the $100 mark at the end of April due to restricting events in the Strait of Hormuz but the price surge has now levelled with WTI hovering at $101.2 as of writing.
Threats to commercial vessels by the IRGC in the Strait of Hormuz remain but the US Navy has been quietly unblocking the strait as of this morning.
