In response to the US blockade of the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC has once again resumed its blockade of the Omani side of the Strait of Hormuz to all ships it deems are connected to hostile countries. As of yesterday, the IRGC began turning back ships which tried to enter the Strait.
Up to 14 tankers successfully exited the Strait before the IRGC announced their renewed blockade. Previously, the Strait of Hormuz was gradually being re-opened. but tankers have now begun turning back again over fears of beign targeted by the IRGC. Yesterday, the IRGC targeted two Indian vessels that were entering the strait and were subsequently forced to turn back. These vessels were the oil-tanker Sanmar Herald (audio below) and the bulk-carrier Jag Arnav.
The blockade was announced by the IRGC on Saturday but was confirmed by the Iranian government on Sunday on state media following reports of an internal disagreement between the IRGC and the government over escalation.
The US Navy is still blockading the Iranian side of the Strait, and have recently taken action by stopping the sanctioned cargo-carrier Touska (IMO 9328900). The vessel was shot at and then boarded by the US Navy (footage below).
Talks between the US and the Iranian regime were meant to continue in Islamabad this week, but there is no official confirmation from either side about the next meeting yet. Talks previously failed as Iran refused to give up nuclear enrichment.
Speaking to journalists on Air Force One, US President Donald Trump has threatened once again to bomb Iran after the ceasefire ends on Wednesday. US aircraft activity in Europe also increased.
