In a press conference earlier today, the Nationalist Party announced further tax pledges, including a commitment to exempt COLA increases from taxation, and reduction of the tax bands, following yesterday’s pledged proposal to remove succession and inheritance taxes. The party also pledged to introduce a €1,000 National Skills Wallet for every young person, to be used for courses and further education.
The Nationalist Party said that its proposed tax cuts would cost the government up to €100 million annually.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party today announced a new “National Business Wallet” aimed at supporting small businesses and young entrepreneurs. Prime Minister Robert Abela said the scheme would provide targeted financial assistance and incentives for start-ups, while also promising further reductions in bureaucracy for businesses. Labour additionally pledged new support measures for young entrepreneurs seeking to launch their own businesses
During the press conference, Times of Malta journalist Julia Magri asked Opposition Leader about the Nationalist Party’s lack of positions on government corruption. Alex Borg said that the Nationalist Party is currently demanding the publication of the declaration of MPs but then said that the focus of the Nationalist Party was to bring “a breath of fresh air” in the country, emphasising his long-held position to avoid corruption issues and focus on other issues.
