US President Donald Trump is set to meet Xi Jinping in China on 13th May in a meeting that was planned last year, but was postponed due to the war on Iran. China has been hit by US tariffs which has since then been reduced around 25% on most products.

The US President is expected to discuss with his Chinese counterpart a new trade agreement along with a myriad of issues including Iran, Taiwan and artificial intelligence. The US President praised the Chinese dictator and said that he rules 1.4 billion people with an iron fist. President Trump also said that he will be advocating for the release of jailed Hong Kong publisher Jimmy Lai along with the imprisoned evangelical pastor Ezra Jin.ย  However, Trump also said that he was going to defend US weapons to Taiwan and will also ask China to help mediating with Iran.

On Iran, the US President stated that disagreements continue with the Iranian regime over the terms of a possible peace agreement, particularly concerning sanctions relief, uranium enrichment and the future status of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump described the current ceasefire with Iran as being โ€œon life supportโ€ while insisting negotiations were still ongoing.
