Alex Borg tells supporters in Mosta that they are the “winds of change”

Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg told supporters in Mosta that they represent โ€œthe hope for the change Malta needs,โ€ as he called on the country to begin โ€œa new chapterโ€ during a mass meeting focused on the PNโ€™s vision for the future.

Addressing the gathering, Borg said the upcoming election presents Maltese and Gozitan voters with a clear choice: continue along what he described as a path of instability and broken promises, or choose โ€œA Fresh Startโ€ under a Nationalist Government.

โ€œMosta represents the wind of change,โ€ Borg said. โ€œAnd today, you are the hope this country has for the next change for our Malta.โ€

He said the PNโ€™s campaign has focused on listening to peopleโ€™s concerns rather than engaging in attacks and negativity. According to Borg, the party has spent recent weeks meeting young people struggling to buy their first home, elderly people burdened by the rising cost of living, and self-employed workers who feel ignored.

โ€œOur campaign is not built on fear or propaganda,โ€ he said. โ€œIt is built on peopleโ€™s lives, their dreams and the future of their children.โ€

Borg also criticised what he described as coordinated attacks against Conrad Borg Manchรจ after he joined the PN, saying the party would continue defending those who want what is best for the country.

The PN Leader outlined several proposals that will feature in the partyโ€™s electoral programme, including a reduction in electricity bills by an average of 30% from next January, lower taxes, the removal of succession tax, and tax-free income for young people during their first five years of work.

He also pledged increased pensions and measures aimed at helping first-time buyers, including government assistance covering the 10% property deposit โ€” up to โ‚ฌ45,000 โ€” and half the interest payments for the first 10 years.

Borg said a future Nationalist Government would also focus on strengthening Maltaโ€™s identity through a long-term population strategy and investment in new economic sectors, including the maritime industry.

Referring to environmental and quality-of-life issues, Borg criticised Prime Minister Robert Abela over promises related to open spaces that, he said, were never delivered.

โ€œA new Nationalist Government will invest in open spaces across the country,โ€ Borg said. โ€œOur open spaces will not be covered in gravel, but in grass and trees.โ€

He accused the Labour Government of forcing the country into an early election due to internal instability and a failure to govern effectively.

During the same event, Michael Psaila Debono addressed supporters on behalf of younger generations, arguing that while Labour offers โ€œvouchers and pre-election cheques,โ€ the PN is offering โ€œhope, vision and a future.โ€

He highlighted the legacy of previous Nationalist Governments, including Maltaโ€™s EU membership and the development of sectors such as aviation, pharmaceuticals and financial services, while pointing to the maritime sector as a future area of growth.

Gabriella Farrugia also addressed the gathering, focusing on work-life balance and family policies. She praised PN proposals including extended maternity leave on full pay, increased paternity leave, flexible working arrangements, and support measures for families and self-employed workers.

The Partit Nazzjonalista is expected to officially launch its electoral programme during a General Council meeting at Dar ฤŠentrali on Monday evening.
