NGOs welcome government’s decision to protect Wied iż-Żrinġ

The Ramblers Association has welcomed yesterday’s decision by the Cabinet to include the agricultural land in Wied iż-Żrinġ, next to the Bulebel Industrial Estate, in the ODZ category. The proposal was pushed by NGO Wirt iż-Żejtun and the Żejtun Local Council.

The Ramblers Association, which is often at the forefront of protests against environmental destruction and government legislation enabling construction on ODZ land, welcomed the decision and congratulated Wirt iż-Żejtun for its efforts. In a brief statement, the Ramblers Association said that it is possible for the government to remove areas from development boundaries, despite its claims that it is bound by local plans.

Wirt iż-Żejtun welcomed the decision and said that this proposal was first made in 2018, adding that it is pleased that the local plans for this area will now be changed.
