In another message published this morning by the President of the Ramblers Association, Ingram Bondin continued to explain what he described as the most corrupt reform in the history of planning. The President of the Ramblers Association announced that according to a Times of Malta article, the government will be adding another reform in addition to the bills it already presented, with the aim of regularising all the planning and construction illegalities that have taken place during the past thirty years.
Ingram Bondin said that this wide-scale concession will reward environmental criminals and erase all the work the Planning Authority and NGOs did in the past thirty years to protect and conserve the environment. He also stated that much of the legal work related to environmental protection is carried out by NGOs, often fulfilling roles that should be the responsibility of the Planning Authority and other government entities.
In his previous message, the President of the Ramblers Association said that the government is proposing laws that will fully appease the construction lobby at the expense of the environment. He also said that the Prime Minister had refused to meet with the environmental NGOs and to consult with them.
The government is proposing a set of reforms which will give the Planning Authority and its executives to disregard environmental regulations and the Local Plans in the awarding of development permits. The laws will dismantle all environmental protections that were painstakingly built over the past thirty years.
