Farewell Antoinette Miggiani, a legendary soprano passed away

It is with profound sadness that Malta bids farewell to Antoinette Miggiani, one of the country’s most distinguished operatic sopranos and vocal teachers, who passed away on 29 June 2026 at the age of 88.

Born in Sliema in 1937, Miggiani began her musical journey studying piano and voice locally before winning a prestigious British Council scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London. Her exceptional talent quickly gained international recognition after her success at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society International Singers’ Competition, which led to a contract with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Throughout the 1960s, Miggiani’s powerful voice resonated across major stages in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and the United States. She captivated audiences in leading operatic roles, most notably as:
