The man accused of murdering Ann Widdecombe has been arrested and charged with murder. Joshua Kerry, 28, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, appeared in Court and was remanded in custody.
Prosecutors allege that Kerry drove more than 400 kilometres to Widdecombe’s home in Haytor, Devon, in a red Vauxhall Corsa. He entered her bungalow through the front door while she was eating lunch and struck her on the head 21 times with a hammer.
He is then took her wallet from her handbag before fleeing her house where spent approximately two minutes. Widdecombe was found lying face down on her kitchen floor by her gardener the following morning, with blunt-force trauma to the head listed as the provisional cause of death.
The former Conservative MP and Reform UK spokesperson was killed shortly before she was due to participate in a pre-arranged online interview on Channel 5’s Matt Allwright show. When she failed to appear and could not be contacted, the programme’s producers raised the alarm with her assistant.
