This Labour government seems that it will be persistently characterised by a gigantic disconnect from reality and public perception, as it continues to conduct politics as though it were producing a a ONE propaganda broadcast.
Some politically agnostic supporters of the proposed Equality Law have accused the media of ridiculing the bill. I digress. The government itself is objectively ridiculous: it tries to project a progressive image through inconsequential legislation while remaining too mired in corruption and ignorance to get the basics of governance right.
How is it acceptable to leave thousands of households and businesses without electricity during Summer months, year-on-uear, and the best the Energy Minister can do is smudge her banal and theatrical lines while the Prime Minister apologises and tells the Energy and Infrastructure Ministries to hurry up their work.
They are a government of incompetent clowns and it’s even more concerning that opposition is not calling them out as so.
The first time the Energy Minister announced the upgrading of electricity distribution system was in 2022. And supposedly, according to the Prime Minister, the localities which ent without electricity are parts in which the upgrades have not yet been fulfilled.
That makes a lot of localities including most of Gozo. Mellieฤงa, Xemxija, Saint Paul’s Bay, Balzan, Lija, Attard, Naxxar, Swieqi, Sliema, Mosta, Birkirkara, Rabat, Baฤงrija, ฤฆamrun, Marsa, Luqa, Gudja, Luqa, Tarxien, ลปejtun, Marsascala, Birgu, Senglea, and most of Malta practically.
What does this mean for โthe biggest investment in the universe in Maltese historyโ? Has the electricity grid been upgraded or not? At what point will this project be fully implemented, and will it ever prevent recurring outages of this kind? Who is asking these questionsโand who is answering them?
