The Houthis in Yemen have issued a threat to commercial vessels in the Red Sea not to call at Saudi Arabia’s ports as they have now joined the war on Iran’s side.
The Houthis seem to be attempting to close off the commercial route from the Red Sea to Bab al-Mab for commercial shipping. Two ships in the Red Sea headed in the southern direction also turned back upon the news.
Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the Houthis actions and said that they risk curtailing commercial shipping in the region.
Last week, the EU’s High Representative Kaja Kallas was in Djibouti to renew strategic and defense agreements for the presence of EU naval forces in the Gulf of Aden.
