War continues in the Arabian Peninsula but shipping in Bab-Mandeb not yet fully closed

Houthis in Yemen claimed to have struck Aramco’s Abqaiq oil refinery around 330 KM east from Riyadh but Saudi Arabia has said that the refinery was targeted by militants from Iraq. The attack follows another attack on Aramco’s Yanbu oil refinery last week.

The war between Yemen and Saudi Arabia is still ongoing but the Houthis may have not had their intended impact with their blockade on Saudi ports. Brent Crude however is still above $89.

Traffic through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait has reduced slightly but it has picked up quickly again this week according to Marine Traffic. Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz is still online but at a much reduced level before the before started. Many of the ships transiting out of both straits are headed to Pakistan, India and China.
