US government condemns Israeli strikes against Syria

The US government has condemned Israel’s airstrikes on Abu al-Duhur airport describing it as an unnecessary escalation. US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy to Syria and Iraq Tom Barack said that the Syrian government has neither taken a predatory posture nor is hosting proxy forces. He added that the US will keep mediating between the two parties to encourage further talks aimed at de-escalation.

The Syrian government has called on the United Nations Security Council to clearly condemn Israel’s aggression. It also stated that it reserved the right to defend its rights and interests through legitimate means and under international law.

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan have all condemned the attack.

Israel released a statement admitting the attack and said that it came in response to a planned deployment of Turkish troops. The attack follows other similar instances when Israel struck Turkish-supplied anti-air defences in Syria.
