Another lie told by Yorgen Fenech during his testimony is connected to his narrative that he could not control the situation he was in because he was dealing with people more powerful than him, namely Keith Schembri, and that he was being blackmailed by Melvin Theuma, who was in contact with dangerous people, namely the Degiorgio brothers, whom he admitted to having paid fearing their blackmail.
To add colour to his narrative, Yorgen Fenech said that he “didn’t have the tools” to deal with the situation.
This is another outright lie and also directly contradicts his actions and behaviour.
Yorgen Fenech used the local press, more specifically Saviour Balzan, who in this case was his tool, to get back at Jason Azzopardi. Yorgen Fenech also paid Adrian Delia and the Nationalist Party in order to fund political opponents against David Casa.
Yorgen Fenech had ample tools at his disposal, and he used his money to secure political victories. Yorgen Fenech used his tools very rigorously and regularly, and all the evidence shows that his efforts were directed at avoiding negative press over 17 Black and the Electrogas project.
