As the witness testimony of Yorgen Fenech draws to a close, after he blamed a list of people for the murder and tried to deflect responsibility despite paying for Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder, Yorgen Fenech is surely right about one thing.
How and why Keith Schembri has not been suspected as an accomplice to the murder, how he was not investigated over his leaks to Yorgen Fenech, and why he was never prosecuted for his association with organised crime and murder remain serious questions. Even if Keith Schembri never commissioned the murder, there is still a lot of evidence concerning his association with and leaks to Yorgen Fenech.
Yorgen Fenech has portrayed himself as the businessman who took the fall for the murder by himself—this is true. Yorgen Fenech may feel that this is unfair, but even if it is, he is still fully responsible for his own actions and, as he himself has admitted, paid for the murder himself.
The fact also remains that Yorgen Fenech and Keith Schembri were indeed close friends, and the question should be asked whether Yorgen Fenech would have acted alone in such a consequential and significant murder operation.
