Energy Minister Miriam Dalli is causing widespread ire and angry commentary against her on social media after describing the latest power cuts in Gozo as an “inconvenience”.
Gozo was left without power overnight, and Enemalta tried to offset the problem with generators brought over from Malta. The Minister said that the power cuts were caused by faults that were being repaired.
Malta is going through another bout of exceptional heat, exacerbated by a sandstorm from the Sahara.
Meanwhile, power cuts have become regular whenever Malta experiences a bout of intense heat, raising questions about the repairs and upgrades being carried out on the electricity infrastructure. The Prime Minister had previously said that power cuts occurred only in localities where upgrades had not yet taken place, but most of Malta experienced extensive power cuts this year.
