Nationalist Party reiterates call for Daphne Public Inquiry reforms: Mark Anthony Sammut calls on AG to resign

In a press conference today, the Nationalist Party reiterated its call on the government to implement all the reforms proposed in the public inquiry into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Michael Piccinino reminded the public that the inquiry stated that the government had created a state of impunity that led to the murder of the journalist.

He also said that there is no reason for the government to keep resisting the implementation of these reforms other than to protect corruption and criminality. Michael Piccinino also said that everyone knows that Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered for her work, and that it is worrying that the Culture Minister would deny this, because this is the same Minister who should be promoting reforms to protect journalists.

He also added that the Prime Minister should take action against public officials who are currently spreading hate through their commentary against Daphne Caruana Galizia and her family, including public official Jason Micallef.

Mark Anthony Sammut reiterated his calls for the Attorney General to resign, saying that her consistent mistakes in prosecutions involving powerful people make her corrupt rather than merely benignly stupid. In addition, she chose never to set foot in court, instead choosing to go abroad on the day of the verdict. Mark Anthony Sammut echoed his colleaguesโ€™ calls for Jason Micallef to resign, saying that public officials should not be making partisan comments.

Earlier this week, the Attorney-General lost a case against Ray Fenech (Yorgen Fenech’s uncle) due to a technical mistake.
