Opposition Leader reiterates call to introduce law on unexplained wealth: dismisses concerns on th jury system and wants journalists with warrants

Opposition Leader Alex Borg held a press conference earlier today at the Parliament building and reiterated his call for the full implementation of proposals of the public inquiry into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The Opposition Leader wants the urgent implementation of the unexplained wealth orders legislation which obliges individuals to explain the source of their wealth.

Answer questions to journalists Alex Borg also said that he agrees that journalists should be given a warrant. I don’t understand why journalists are suddenly the object of regulation during this time and the Opposition Leader seemed completely unprepared on the subject. He mentioned anti-SLAPP legislation but he did not make reference to the European Media Freedom Act which is yet to be enforced in Malta.

The Opposition Leader also dismissed concerns on the jury system and said that the jury system has come along after many years of history and legal developments and he doesn’t think that this is the right moment to discuss an overhaul of the system.

He also referred to the press conference that is to be held by the disgraced ex-Premier Joseph Muscat later on today and remarked that he doesn’t know whether the Prime Minister right now is Joseph Muscat or Robert Abela.

    The jury system should be adapted for our small island. The should be completely anonymized if thats even possible
