Labour Party launches attack on David Casa following announcement of fact-finding mission by the European Parliament

The Labour Party has launched an attack on PN and EPP MEP, David, Casa through its propaganda arm, ONE, accusing him of tarnishing Malta’s name abroad following a decision by the European Parliament to conduct a fact-finding mission following Yorgen Fenech’s verdict.

The mission was approved by the European Parliament’s Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group (DRFMG), which forms part of the Civil Liberties Committee. David Casa welcomed the decision, saying that the verdict could not bring an end to scrutiny of the wider institutional failures surrounding Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination.

The composition and dates of the delegation have not yet been announced. The mission is expected to seek answers over issues raised following Yorgen Fenech’s trial, including the police investigation, the prosecution’s handling of the case, key evidence and whether other individuals in positions of power were properly investigated. David Casa also highlighted the government’s failure to fully implement the recommendations of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Public Inquiry.

The DRFMG was originally established following the murders of Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta and Jรกn Kuciak in Slovakia and monitors threats to democracy, the rule of law, press freedom and the fight against corruption across the European Union. The group has already carried out previous fact-finding missions to Malta.

  1. Many people are having anxiety issues following the jury verdict of last week. They can’t believe how our country has come to this sorry state. I welcome any help from the EU to try to restore some normality to our country.
