UPDATED:
The family of Daphne Caruana Galizia has issued a statement following the verdict. They said that, had Daphne not been murdered, she would have exposed the links between Yorgen Fenech, then-Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff over payments they were to receive through Fenech’s company, 17 Black.
They added that accountability is overdue for all those who enabled, facilitated and protected her murderers. Justice should now also be served for the corruption that made Daphne’s murder possible.
They also remarked that Fenech remains charged in Court with bribery and money-laundering offences, and that other prosecutions may also follow.
Yorgen Fenech was escorted out of Court with a large police escort and gave no comments to the press as onlookers shouted “Mafia State” and “żibel”.
End of update
Yorgen Fenech has been found not guilty by a jury of having conspired and facilitated the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Jurors found Fenech innocent on both counts at 8 to 1.
