Former IDF spokesperson Jonathan Conricus claimed that the IDF would be fighting Hamas according to international law and demanded that Israel be judged fairly and accordingly as we judge other Western states. Subjecting the IDF to the same level of scrutiny as other Western states would mean that Gazan civilians are allowed to leave Gaza through human corridors in the Rafah crossing, something which so far Egypt has failed to organise. This is not just the responsibility of Egypt but also that of Israel given that Gazans are blockaded by the Israelis.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has declared a total siege of Gaza, cutting off water supplies and electricity to the Gaza Strip (Israel controls everything that goes into Gaza). Israel has already garnered a lot of solidarity and support from the international community but this support is not guaranteed to last if Israel is seen to be acting vengefully with no consideration for the lives of Arab civilians. The US lost most of its international support after 9/11 and George W. Bush recorded one of the lowest ratings in history by foreign and non-US audiences.
Tens of thousands of Gazans have had clear intentions to leave Gaza before this war even started but Israel precludes many Gazans from leaving. Gaza is being pounded by Israeli air strikes and many innocent Palestinians are in the crossfire.
