Among the many events that have gone relatively under the radar in the past few weeks was the application by the real-estate developer of Fort Chambray, Gozo to turn his failed project around by extending his public lease over the fort. Fort Chambray, which was commissioned by Jacques-François de Chambray in 1749, is now in the hands of Michael Caruana of Fort chambray Ltd.
Michael Caruana took over the fort in 2004 from a Nationalist administration as usually happens, at a great discount. He failed to turn the fort into a touristic attraction, broke his concession agreement, and the Labour government, now, has given him an even better deal.
Incredible. And where’s the Nationalist Party in all of this? It’s in favour. Alex Borg who sits on the National Audit Accounts Committee voted in favour of the government’s proposal.
Incredible times two. We’ve got an Opposition supporting the Labour government’s wreckage of Gozo, yet this is quite in character of Alex Borg and his significant faction in PN. Alex Borg wants to turn PN into another version of the Labour Party.
This is not the first time that Alex Borg has defended Gozitan real-estate developers.
