Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri wasn’t present during last Thursday’s Labour Party Parliamentary Group Meeting

One of the Labour MPs who did not attend last Thursday’s Labour Party Parliamentary Group meeting was Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, who refused to attend out of protest. Rumours are circulating that he may be conspiring with Opposition MP Alex Borg, but Alex Borg also received the Prime Minister’s quotation accurately as if it was handed to him by someone who was present. One can also never rule out intermediaries.ย  Labour MPs also suspect that Joseph Muscat’s crew is contact with Adrian Delia and Alex Borg’s faction.

Minister Clint Camilleri was condemned by the parliamentary standards committee and the Standards Commissioner for giving a fraudulent contract to the wife of the previous Minister of Tourism. The Nationalist Party including Opposition MP Alex Borg are demanding the resignation of Minister Camilleri.

Note that both major political parties agree with each other on major construction developments and concessions granted to building contractors in Gozo. The most recent case involving such an agreement was related to Fort Chambray, where Alex Borg defended a generous government concession to the developers, even going so far as to provide false information and make misleading statements about it.

Minister Clint Camilleri doesn’t seem to feel threatened by Prime Minister Robert Abela yet, bringing back Justyne Caruana to the fold will put a dent in his election campaign. If Justyne Caruana contests elections, which she would do on the Gozitan district, she would most probably be taking most of the share of Joseph Muscat’s supporters.

Nothing makes sense here and as usual it doesn’t need to make sense if there’s Supreme Leader Robert Abela involved. Why the Labour Party isn’t focusing on a new and upcoming Gozitan candidate for the general elections instead of propping up members of Joseph Muscat’s crew is beyond me.

At this stage, the Prime Minister may as well handover power to Joseph Muscat and become his consultant once again: rapidly accelerating the pace by which the Labour Party turns into an insignificant relic of the past 1980s-Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici-style.

Nothing makes sense and there aren’t very many one can trust.
