Last weekend, the Reggio Emilia Grand Prix for table football brought together top talent from around the world, including a strong contingent of Maltese players. Representing Malta, Josef Camilleri, Spencer Conti, Jean Tabone, and George Ebejer delivered impressive performances in this prestigious tournament.
Group Stage Success
In the group stages, Maltese players shone brightly:
- Josef Camilleri, Spencer Conti, and Jean Tabone all triumphed, securing first place in their respective groups.
- George Ebejer also advanced to the knockout stages after finishing in second place in his group.
Elimination Rounds
The knockout stage saw an intense face-off between Maltese players, as Ebejer and Tabone clashed in a high-stakes match. After a tense period of extra time, Jean Tabone emerged victorious, booking his spot in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Josef Camilleri also advanced to the quarterfinals with a strong performance, but Spencer Conti’s journey ended in this phase after a hard-fought match.
In the quarterfinals, however, the Maltese players faced tough competition:
- Josef Camilleri was defeated by Sebastien Scheen, a formidable opponent.
- Jean Tabone fell to Ferdinando Gasparini, marking the end of the individual campaign for the Maltese athletes.
Team Competition
The Bormla Subbuteo Club represented Malta in the team category, delivering a solid performance by advancing from the group stage in second place. In the quarterfinals, they faced a strong Salernitana team but were ultimately eliminated.
