UK diplomats meet with Syrian leader following announcement of £50 million aid to Syria

UK diplomats with the new Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa following an announcement by the UK Foreign Office that the UK government is donating £50 million to Syria mainly to help the most vulnerable Syrians. The aid will be funneled through UN organisations.

The UK Special representative for Syria, Ann Snow and Former Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hickey met with the Syrian leader yesterday. Following the meeting, they took a photo together. Last week, the Syrian leader told a woman in Damascus to cover her hair before taking a photo with him.

Ahmed al-Sharaa has dropped his nom de guerre (Abu Mohammed al-Jolani) and is using his actual name in his new civilian setting. He has no official title yet, and is working alongside a newly appointed civilian government.
