Watch: celebrations in Damascus and the story of the girl who went viral for taking a picture with the Syrian rebel commander

Today, Damascus and other cities such as Homs, Hama, Aleppo and even Latakia (supposed to be the heartland of the Bashar al-Assad’s supporters) were jam-packed with people celebrating the fall of Bashar al-Assad. There were incredible scenes as millions of people, including people of different sects, religions and political beliefs congregated together in the streets to celebrate the fall of Bashar al-Assad and his regime.

A vide online went viral showing a girl wearing a hood on her head to take a photo with the Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani. The Syrian rebel leader asked her to cover her hair before taking a photo with him. Later on, the young woman posted a comment on her Instagram account where she explained that the rebel commander asked her to cover her hair only when she asked him to take a picture with her, and there were other girls and women around who weren’t wearing a hijab. She praised him and his mujahedin for liberating them and bringing freedom to their country. Jolani had already stated that hijab won’t be mandatory.

The heroic White Helmets also made an appearance at the Ummayad mosque. The White Helmets spent Syria’s civil war conducting first-aid work and digging up bodies and civilians from the rubble and were targeted, bombed and smeared by Russian and Syrian propaganda for their work.
