The Donetsk region in Ukraine is still being contested by the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the Russian advance having halted at Pokrovsk. The Ukrainian Armed Forces took over the village of Pishchane yesterday morning 5KM away from Pokrovsk as they hold off the city against the Russian advance. Pokrovsk has already been heavily shelled by Russian artillery and targeted by guided bombs. Many of its residents have fled and most of its outlying villages have been flattened.
Russians have still been unable to launch a successful attack on Pokrovsk after losing tens of thousands of soldiers to capture Ukrainian cities. Russia lost at least 50,000 men just to capture Bakhmut. The Russians are short of everything including men, military vehicles and tanks, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces keep up their record Russian casualty rate. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff, more than 1200 Russian soldiers are being killed along with dozens of military vehicles and artillery units destroyed every day. More than 2.5 million Russian soldiers are estimated to have been wounded and up to 850,000 killed. Despite current shortages, Russia plans to mobilise up to 150,000 men by next Summer.
Hundreds of clashes have already taken place this month between Ukrainian forces and the Russians in Donetsk, with the Russians claiming they cannot continue their advance as the Ukrainians have successfully gained control of the skies. Russian daily assaults are also falling at all-time lows.
