Last night, Israel bombed Damascus and southern Syria in its ongoing attempt to stoke divisions between the Druze community in the south and the rest of the country. Israel aims to destabilise Syria and expand its occupation in the south of the country. Israeli forces also extended their occupation in the south of the country by entering the village of Al-Bakkar, Al-Amal and Tal-Ahmar and in Quneitra.
Israel is justifying its bombings and occupation of Syria by claiming self-defense interests and protecting the Druze community. Syria has never attacked Israel, President Ahmed al-Sharaa said he wants peace with Israel and the Druze community have consistently shown they want to remain part of Syria. The Syrian government is in favour of setting up Turkish bases in the south of Syria as a security guarantee against Israeli invasion and occupation.
