Playing stupid partisan games with serious things (and our lives)

Prime Minister Robert Abela is currently on ONE delivering a very abrasive and nonsensical partisan speech about defence whilst attacking the Nationalist Party and the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. This is not the first time that the Prime Minister is abusing of matters concerning defence and the national interest in a partisan manner.

You don’t need to be a total infantile imbecile to invoke and practice your country’s neutrality. You can do so by being mature about it, seeking consensus with the Opposition and national support for serious matters that can determine our lives and future. These are not matters to be used for a partisan purpose in an idiotic Super ONE propagandistic context.

Labour and the Prime Minister keep hitting new record lows.

This was a week when leaders could show their mettle and do some serious leadership. Our Prime Minister has failed us once again. In historic times that demand strong leadership, he remains more focused on playing petty partisan games and appeasing the Labour crowd instead of offering national guidance.

The Prime Minister is blatantly lying about Malta’s defence policy. As of last year, he was very much in favour of augmenting Malta’s defences and even supported an increase in government spending of the Armed Forces to modernise their equipment. Now, he is ignoring all of this in the hope of scoring a few partisan political points by contradicting the statements made by the President of the European Parliament.

This is all a charade and the Prime Minister should stop abusing of such serious matters to play partisan politics. Malta lacks national security he is entirely to blame for it.
