Yesterday, Prime Minister and Labour Party Leader Robert Abela gave a very feisty speech at a political rally in Naxxar. There wasn’t much enthusiasm for the rally despite being promoted widely by the unofficial Labour Party propogandists such as Karl Stagno Navarra. There were also some interesting figures present including current criminal suspect Clayton Bartolo, who is investigated for money laundering and corruption.
The Prime Minister’s speech was yet again another attack against Jason Azzopardi, but with a difference. The Prime Minister spent a substantial part of his speech exalting and defending Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech after she rejected Jason Azzopardi’s requests for Magisterial Inquiries over corruption allegations against the Minister of Gozo, Clint Camilleri. Jason Azzopardi submitted three requests for Magisterial Inquiries on three separate corruption allegations against Minister Clint Camilleri, all of which have been rejected.
The Judiciary are not rejecting Magisterial Inquiries on their merit but they are rejecting them in anticipation of the change in law. However, there is suspicion that Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech has been specifically selected to sign off the latest rejections.
Last year, Prime Minister Robert Abela was attacking Magistrate Gabriella Vela for conducting an extensive inquiry into the fraudulent government deals over public hospitals with Vitals. Now, the Prime Minister is defending the Judiciary, specifically, Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech for saving his Minister from investigation.
I am not surprised that the Prime Minister would have a fondness for Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech given that she attends private events of Labour’s inner circles, has a track-record of irregularities, and is known as one of the least trustworthy Magistrates when it comes to politicians and political corruption. She is even in contact with the Prime Minister via WhatsApp.
By defending her in public for rejecting a Magisterial Inquiry on the corruption of his own Cabinet Minister, Prime Minister Robert Abela is not doing the Magistrate any favours. Instead, he is exposing her for who she is, blatantly implicating her in what may well have been a coordinated act of obstruction of justice between himself and the Magistrate.
