UK’s Energy Secretary Ed Miliband was on the BBC giving a short interview and gave an update on the fire of a substation in Heathrow.
The Energy Secretary said that the situation is unprecedent because the national grid never experienced an event like this. He also said that the backup stations were also affected. 100,000 residents were left without electricity but electricity was restored to many houses with only 4,000 people remaining without electricity according to the Energy Secretary.
Questioned on how Heathrow Airport could be so easily disrupted, the Energy Secretary only said that the government’s current concern is to restore power and the airport’s activity, but an investigation on the cause of the fire is ongoing.
The London Fire Brigade stated that upon arriving at the scene, they found a transformer of a substation alight and described it as a very visible and significant incident.
