Hamsi is back in Tobruk after selling more oil in Maltese waters

Yesterday morning, the Liberian-flagged ship Hamsi was back in Tobruk, Libya to reload with Libyan oil after having sold a load of oil to Falzon & Falzon in Maltese water earlier this week. Ships owned by Falzon & Falzon have recently been loading up with Libyan oil from Hamsi which is sold with fraudulent certificates of origin from Turkey. The ship Hamsi has been identified as trading in smuggled Libyan oil by a United Nations Security Council investigation.

Hamsi is also regularly switching off its transponder when it sails through Maltese waters hiding its exact tracking. It generally travels from Tobruk to Turkey and back to Malta to sell its oil after having obtained certificates from Turkey.

Alkagesta, Malta’s largest oil cargo trader, has also been accused of trading in Libyan smuggled oil with fraudulent certificates of Turkish origin. Algakesta denies these allegations which were produced by an independent Turkish investigation.
