In a rare admission of guilt, the Israeli Defence Forces admitted to “professional failures” in its killing of 15 aid workers it previously accused of being Hamas. An independent investigation by Sky News and Airwars revealed that none of the aid workers were armed or Hamas members. Malta condemned the attack and demanded an investigation.
Two Israeli military officers were found guilty of “professional failures” by an IDF investigation, including the Commanding Officer of the 14th Brigade, who was reprimanded, and the deputy commander of the Golani Reconnaissance Battalion who has been dismissed from his position.
The IDF also expressed regret for the harm caused to “uninvolved civilians”.
Israel killed up to 400 aid workers since the start of the war on Gaza in October 2023 and deliberately targeted aid convoys and aid workers on multiple occasions. Up to 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the war started with most of them being women and children. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants against Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his previous defence minister war crimes against humanity in Gaza.
