Pedro Sánchez wants Israel out of the Eurovision: UK suspends trade talks with Israel

Yesterday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez gave a speech accusing Europe of inconsistency in its application of sanctions for human rights violations. Prime Minister Sánchez mentioned how Russia was banned from the Eurovision following its invasion of Ukraine, but Israel is still allowed to participate despite its ongoing genocide in Gaza. The Spanish Prime Minister called for Israel to be banned from the Eurovision. Spain is one of Palestine’s strongest advocates of Palestine in Europe.

Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, announced in Parliament that the UK was suspending trade talks with Israel. The UK was discussing a new free trade deal with Israel and these negotiations have been suspended. The European Union has also begun the process fo reviewing its current trade activities with Israel, and trade with Israel can be suspended if it doesn’t allow the entrance of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The UK, France and Canada have just signed a statement demanding Israel to halt all its military operations in Gaza and move towards the Two-State Solution. Malta also signed a similar letter with Ireland and Spain.
