Israel strikes Iran’s nuclear facilities and military targets

Israel has just conducted multiple airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities and Iranian military targets. Explosions were reported at Iran’s nuclear facilities including in Natanz and Fordow.

Israel has also target a number of Iranian individuals in their homes who were allegedly involved in Iran’s nuclear programme. Attacks took place in residential areas in Tehran and nuclear scientists were also allegedly targeted. Iran’s military chief of staff, Mohammad Bagheri has been killed in the attacks. Other individuals killed include, the theoretical physicist and President of the Azad University, Mohammad Tehranchi, the former head of the Atomic Energy Organization and MP Fereydoon Abbasi, former head, and General Gholamali Rashid.

The Israeli Defense Forces issued a statement saying that Israel was compelled to act as Iran is close to obtaining a nuclear weapon. Iran has vowed to retaliate.

US stock index futures dropped on news of the attacks, but gold went up and is at $3441 as of writing nearly to its recent all time high. Oil prices have also spiked with West Texas oil futures trading at $75.8 as of writing.
