The ongoing battle between California’s Governor Gavin Newsom and US President Donald Trump over the deployment of troops on the streets of Los Angeles has escalated into a national political battle between American citizens and President Trump’s government overreach.
During this ongoing battle between the Governor and the US President, Governor Newsom has expressed a wide range of views against President Trump that are also shared by many US citizens who are currently opposing and protesting against Trump and his administration.
Among the series of grievances expressed by the Governor include President Trump’s authoritarian behaviour against his political opponents; even at one point threatening to arrest the Governor, the excessive deportations targeting law-abiding citizens and the use of US troops against civilians that unnecessarily inflame tensions.
The political battle between Governor Newsom and the US President is getting more attention as President Trump recently announced that he will revoking his order to deport all illegal migrants citing his preference to deport only criminals instead of deporting law-abiding workers in the hospitality and farming industries.
At the same time, the Trump Administration is increasingly challenging the Governor of California, turning the Los Angeles protests into a direct political confrontation againsy the Governor and State’s Democrats. During a press conference held by the Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem at the Wilshire Federal Building in Los Angeles, a Democrat Senator was manhandled and ushered out of the room by FBI and Secret Service Agents. The Senator interrupted the Homeland Security Secretary with a series of questions which prompted the Secret Service to escort him out. Secretary Kristi Noem said that the Trump administration will stay in California “to liberate it from the socialists”.
In statements made after the press conference, the Trump administration stated that Senator Padilla did not identify himself but footage clearly contradicts this statement.
Protests in Los Angeles have continued despite the presence of National Guard troops on the streets and continued police violence, but rioting and looting has subsided. Some sources claim that the deployment of US Marines on the streets of Los Angeles is imminent after their deployment was delayed due to lack of preparation by the federal government however this has not been confirmed and violence in the streets of Los Angeles seems to have subsided completely.
