The announcement follows the Prime Minister’s directive to withhold salaries of armed militia members who refuse to join the state’s forces and his order to the militias to leave the state’s capital. The Tripoli Director of Security, General Khalil Ohaiba stated that the state is in control of up to 187ย security centres in the city’s capital many of which were previously manned by armed militias.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister reiterated that the right to protest is guaranteed and that there will be no political persecution. He stated that protests in the capital take place without any harassment by the security forces. The Prime Minister also reiterated that
The Prime Minister said that this consolidation of the state’s security forces could not have been made possible without the elimination of Abdel Ghani Al-Kikli and his armed militia (the Stability Support Apparatus). The Rada armed militia has also indicated it was accepting the government’s new terms. The Prime Minister accused Al-Kikli of fomenting tyranny and running a criminal organisation before he was killed by the pro-government armed militia the 444 Brigade.
