Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, who is leading the push to integrate armed militias with the official army, had previously ordered militia groups to leave the capital city of Tripoli, but the city is now once again filled with military trucks in preparation for another fight.
As of early this morning, pro-government military convoys from Misrata have been entering Tripoli as forces prepare for another clash with militia groups. The convoys have been entering the city throughost week. Tensions are rising between the government and the Special Deterrence Force (Radaa Brigade).
The Government of National Unity in Tripoli is demanding the SDF Brigade to hand over its weapons and bases as part of the government’s plan to integrate the militia groups with the official army and security forces. The SDF is refusing to give up its weapons, and are currently located at the Mitiga military base near the Mitiga airport.
The SDF (Radaa) Brigade were previously involved in a clash by the pro-government 444 Brigade which executed Radaa’s previous leader Abdel Ghani al-Kikli. The SDF had previously promised the government that it is willing to cooperate on its plans to abolish the militias.
