Yesterday evening, military factions in Libya took their defensive position across and outside the city of Tripoli in anticipation of a battle but no fighting took place. Last week, militia units from Misrata gathered in Tripoli in anticipation of a fight against the Special Deterrence Forces (Al-Radaa Brigade). Sporadic gunfire was reported yesterday, but no clashes seem to have taken place.
Khalifa Haftar’s forces (the Libyan National Army) have also arrived in the city of Tarhuna in western Libya, bordering Tripoli. According to the LNA’s official press reports, the 4th Brigade of the LNA has been deployed in Tarhuna and a propaganda video was released about this deployment. Countering Haftar’s forces, is the 444 Brigade which has been fielded in Al-Shuwayrif, south of Bani Walid.
Anti-government forces from the East, namely from Zawiya also headed to Tripoli.
Meanwhile, an unofficial wanted document is being circulated declaring that it is offering up to 700,000 Libyan Dinars for the capture of Osama Najim al-Masri and 1 million Libyan Dinars for the capture of the head of the SDF Abdelraouf Kara. The document says that, “This is a historic opportunity to block the path of chaos, to restore Libya’s standing, and to heal the security services. Think of your country’s future: think of your children’s safety… your confidentiality is guaranteed.”
