Answering to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Beppe Fenech Adami, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that Syrians in Malta with asylum status won’t be forcefully repatriated to Syria. The Prime Minister also reiterated that the government is in principle against giving financial incentives for foreigners to leave.
The Prime Minister said the government does not have any problem with repatriating foreigners that are in Malta illegally but will not be forcing out foreigners who are in Malta as asylum seekers.
The Prime Minister also denied that he is holding back from recognising the State of Palestine due to foreign pressure saying that Malta will give its recognition at the upcoming UN conference on Palestine which has been postponed due to the war against Iran.
