Minister of Foreign Affairs visits China and Japan: discusses tourism

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg was in China yesterday and is to arrive in Japan soon while on a tour discussing mainly tourism according to the DPM’s statements. The DPM and Foreign Minister is also the Minister for Tourism, a portfolio he acquired following the sacking of Minister Clayton Bartolo.

In 2023 Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo signed a Midas touch deal with China, on “education cooperation about tourism”. The deal was signed by the Institute of Tourism Studies and the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Polytechnic. Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg has discussed the agreement with his Chinese counterpart, Minister for Tourism Sun Yeli. The Minister also announced that ITS will open a campus in Zhengzhou.

The Foreign Minister also met with his Foreign Affairs counterpart, Wang Yi, but no details about the discussion were released. The Deputy-Prime Minister also held a meeting with Liu Jianchao, Head of the International Department of the CCP in which he discussed “multilateral cooperation in pursuit of peace”.
