Parliament approves fake profiles and fake news amendment to the Criminal Code

The government has approved the amendment to the Criminal Code criminalising fake news and anonymous online profiles with a fine of up to €10,000. The final amendment can be found here.

The amendment makes reference to whosoever with the intent to cause harm spreads false news with anonymous profiles, emails or websites. It can also be a reference to a digital attacks.

Despite the “fake news” element, the amendment seems to be focused exclusively against those who use an anonymous profile online.  The amendment can be viewed below.
