France, Spain and the Nordic countries have all condemned the latest US sanctions against the International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his previous Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. The British government has so far not issued a statement. The officials who have been sanctioned are ICC Judge Kimberly Prost (Canada), Judge Nicolas Guillou (France), Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan (Fiji) and Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang (Senegal).
The sanctions are in addition to other sanctions against the ICC’s top officials including the top Prosecutor Karim Khan.
In a statement in response to these sanctions, the International Criminal Court stated that it will “continue fulfilling its mandate, undeterred, in strict accordance with its legal framework as adopted by the States Parties and without regard to any restriction, pressure or threat.”
The European Union had previously stated that it will keep supporting the International Criminal Court despite US sanctions.
