Another milestone in this year’s record-breaking turtle nesting season – the fifth nest, located at Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo, has officially begun to hatch.
On the first night of activity, 35 tiny loggerhead hatchlings emerged from the sand and made their way safely to the sea. Officials expect more hatchlings to follow over the next couple of nights as the nest continues to open.
Visitors to Ramla Bay are reminded to keep noise to a minimum, avoid the use of bright lights near the nesting area, and follow the guidance of on-site volunteers. These measures are essential to ensure that the hatchlings do not become disoriented and can reach the water safely.
This marks the second successful hatching at Ramla this season, following the emergence of 26 hatchlings from another nest earlier last month. Each new nest adds to the collective success of conservation work carried out by ERA and Nature Trust – FEE Malta, with the help of dedicated volunteers and the public’s cooperation.
