Conservationists have confirmed that a total of 65 loggerhead turtles successfully hatched from the fifth nest of the season at Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo.
The hatching marks another milestone in what has already been a record-breaking summer for turtle nesting in the Maltese Islands. With the Ramla nest now concluded, attention turns to the final remaining nest of the season, which is expected to begin hatching in the coming days.
Officials from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and Nature Trust – FEE Malta, together with a dedicated team of volunteers, have been working tirelessly to safeguard each site. Their efforts include round-the-clock monitoring, site management, and public awareness campaigns to ensure hatchlings have the best possible chance of survival.
This latest success follows earlier hatchings at Għadira, Ġnejna, and other sites across Malta and Gozo, confirming the islands’ growing importance as a nesting ground for the endangered loggerhead turtle.
Authorities thanked all those involved for their commitment and collaboration, highlighting the role of community support in protecting marine life.
