Robert Aquilina and Jason Azzopardi have just filed a Police report over the corrupt Fortina deal on behalf of the Fondazione Falcone. They listed as their prime suspects, the Chief of Staff of ex-Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Keith Schembri and the previous CEO of the LANDS authority Carlo Mifsud.
Malta’s National Audit Office (NAO) found that the Joseph Muscat administration failed to safeguard the public interest when it lifted restrictions on public land at the Fortina site in 2019. The NAO’s independent valuation put the value of the waivers at about €21 million, versus the €8.1 million actually charged by the Lands Authority The deal also allowed €1 million upfront and €7.1 million interest-free over 10 years, terms the NAO described as inequitable.
The Leader of Opposition called for an urgent debate in Parliament over the deal.
